How to assess the validity and reliability of electronic health record data in nursing research? Although electronic health data have become increasingly popular in recent years, the reliability and validity of their assessment is still poorly understood. We therefore investigated the relationship between the electronic health record (HEQ) and demographic characteristics, including current hospital discharge trends, discharge diagnoses, and post-discharge data. We examined the relationship between demographic characteristics of care and medical diagnoses in a sample of Danish hospitals (n = 2,118) as well as data on non-health care behaviour outpatients and outpatients with available inpatient health services. First, we summarized the diagnostic information for a minimum of 4 types of medical diagnoses: surgical findings, signs and symptoms, cancer diagnosis, neurological and mental disorders, chronic congestive heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, psychotic illness, and major depressive disorder. We found that recent hospital discharge trends were positively correlated with the presence of suspected post-discharge diagnosis as well as medical diagnoses in the electronic health record compared to the non-health care behaviour observed in the electronic health record (all P < 0.001). Methods {#Sec168} ======= A pilot survey of 20 health managers is conducted using standardized question sets, with 10 managers to complete the survey in one week. Data have been collected using two interviewer-blind semi-structured interviews. A brief study of survey logistics had to be undertaken to be exact. When conducting the survey, we used the tool provided by the UK Qualitative Methods Research Programme \[[@CR40]\] to screen the interviews.
